View Full Version : shiny edges warning and a new camera

Hello there,

As a result of the thread "shiny hole edges" *i've tried to improve the cameras already in use...
Warning: if you have a good pinhole device, don't ever mess with it! Use it and cherish it, and be satisfied.
I wasn't satisfied, and tried to improve the pinholes. That set me back, and left me with cameras performing worse then ever. Remember the advice how to make shiny copper dark with 'ammoniak gasses'?

Sure, the recipe works well, but if you leave the copper foil in there too long, this is what happens: see the green mess on the left in the foreground of the attached picture.
So i tried again, and this time checked every five minutes or so, and after 40 minutes the copper lost its shine, but the holes were stille nice and round (i think), see the example on the right.
Now i've managed to make my next camera, which is a converted 6X9 Zeiss Nettar, and the bellows-lid was used as the new front, because then this 'bulbed lid' gives me a little more focal distance of (approx) 40 mm.
The other 6X9 i have, has a focal of 30 mm, just as the 6X6 i am using.
Also, the metal lid is a bit sturdier than the carton i used for the other cameras (and i think it's nice to use as much of the original material as possible)
In about a week or two i will post the first results taken with this new camera.
Examples of my other cameras are on www.xs4all.nl/~dkalkhov

addendum: the other three pinhole cameras i use, from left to right:
6X6 modified agfa click, 70 mm focal, pinhole 0.3 mm, works fine (used for the pinmixer series)
6X9 modified folder, 30mm focal, pinhole 0.2 mm (used for panorama-like shots)
6X6 modified agfa isolette folder, 30 mm focal, pinhole 0.2 mm (used for most of my color closeups)
the last two were spoiled with the "unshiny hole ammoniak recipe", and are now in working order again, with nice round pinholes. But i haven't tested them yet...
