This is a thoughtful and evocative portrait, cmapuk. I like the slightly rough, "no-frills" texture in the emulsion. It seems to express his personality. Comfortable, but not too formal. I like it very much!

I like the idea of printing on canvas. I assume that you put the salt in the gelatine. Did you apply two coats of silver nitrate? I might have to try this technique.

I made my own silver-salt-gelatine emulsion, and use it =)
And i prepare canvas by apply two coats of very strong tanned gelatine.
Otherwise, emulsion can't strongly adhere to canvas
