8x10 Wooden Pinhole Camera - Finally Finished

After having been bitten by the 8x10 bug (thanks to Joe, Earl and others), I cleared the decks and finally finished my camera this morning. All that remains is to load some paper and head out into the blue yonder.

    - Camera constructed from 10mm Beech finished with clear satin wood sealer (a beautiful wood - but hard to work with using basic hand tools!)
    - Hinged back to lock film holder in place.
    - A focal of 150mm.
    - 450 micron pinhole drilled in very thin brass shim stock.
    - Instead of a shutter, a 72mm filter ring will enable me to use a lens cap to control exposure (I will only be shooting paper negs, so exposures will be long).
    - Brass spirit level salvaged from an old wooden carpenter's ruler.
    - A 60mm diameter steel tripod bush to ensure solid mounting to a tripod.

I plan to use an optical viewfinder to aim the camera and establish a rough field of view.

Looking at the finished product it appears as though I depleted the world's supply of brass bolts! Actually they are functional rather than cosmetic or decorative. Soon after planing the front panel it started to warp badly and I had to quickly decide what to do. Bolting the front in place seemed the only way to go!

    Regards,

    Lawrie. Attached files

I can't wait to see the images from it.

Knowing you, they'll be equally special.

Beautiful camera. The brass bolts look perfect, functional and decorative. 10 mm beech, really hard to work with basic hand tools. Excellent work!

Coming from a master camera builder, this is a compliment indeed! Thank you Tony.

Thanks too, for all the other words of encouragement!

The screw heads make a nice feature, particularly nice as you lined up the slots, a homage to the Gandolfi Brothers.
Your skill with the paper negative should mean some fine images will follow soon.
