It a pity that most of the camera building posts have lost their images, and with that ideas for new pinholers.
I wonder if we should start re-post images of cameras that have been built by members here.

Hi Isis- the only time threads lose images is when folks creating the posts link to external images. I would prefer if everyone upload the images to the f295 server so this doesn't happen, but it's the choice of the contributor as to how they would like to share their pictures.

I must be missing something here. From about April 2011 back, when I look at a posting, I just get "Attached files" and a broken image link. I would post a screen shot but when I try to submit an image I get a message about being over my quota. (I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the first to hit a quota, I've been here so long, I've got to be one of the bigger posters) I've been assuming I would have to delete some photographs (which is what the message prompts me to do) in order to continue posting (haven't done it yet but I've been in a long dry spell).

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing just what the policy/practice/limitations are for amount and age of posting images

Those of us who choose to link images from external servers need to be careful to link the proper address so it doesn't go dormant. Regarding lost images, I recall a few years ago when Tom was forced to raise funds to support the F295 server maintenance and upgrade, after which I've made it a point to link images rather than use Tom's bandwidth for image storage. However, many images from the early days of F295 are gone, including those directly uploaded to the F295 server.

i'll look into the missing images. Perhaps we lost some links when the forum got ported over to the new platform a little while back. I haven't deleted any images from the server. Joe, thanks for your concern, but we have lots of server space... storing the little 100k files isn't an issue

i'll look into the rest and report back as well as your question re: quotas Nick.

Hi Tom,

As an example of a thread where I cannot see the images any more, I went to add some pictures of my 5x7 to this old thread the other week and found I could not see any of the images. The were all uploaded to the server, rather than linked.

All I see is the text, then a place-holder where the images used to be. When I click the little icon for an image, it just says 'page not found' (the very first picture tries to access http://f295.f295.org/uploads/dscf5170_4804.jpg if it helps)

Hi Evan-
thanks for the link, much appreciated. I just checked into the server and the good news is that the images are still there, but the link is referencing the location used by the previous software and isn't accurate... i need to figure out how to globally change that and all of the images will pop back into place. hang tight while I go under the hood.

I believe I've resolved the issue with older images not appearing. i scanned a few older posts and they seem to be showing up. If you see otherwise, or come across threads that have issues. Please let me know. Crawling around the database wasn't a whole lot of fun, but I'm glad it's fixed

Also, Nick and other "500+ posts" users... you now have NO limit to the number of images you can upload to the server. They each have to fit under the individual file size constraint, but it's a bottomless pit after that...
