Now, that is interesting! He is using photographic paper. If he used film, he might be able to increase the distance to the subject, and decrease the 'awful' factor. But then, they would not be 'awfulogrammes'!

It would still work with paper, the distance of the flash is what's important. Of course then the flash would be in the photo at the greater distances.
