Pittsburgh Freight Train
After lunch on Sunday, Daryl and I went down next to the river to shoot before he hit the road for Hanover. While we were there, we heard a freight train approaching. Every pinhole photographer needs the passing train image. I turned around to capture this image. Daryl is on the other side of the tracks. I don't know what he brought back from this encounter.

After the train passed, I installed the red 25 filter on my camera. All of a sudden, a train came from the other direction. I got caught with my wits down, and made the same exposure that I had without the filter. Here is what happens - good sky, no earth.

I like #1 because it seems mysterious and also, I kind of like double exposures, and even though this isn't one, I like it! two thumbs up!

This one had to be taken about the same time.
Earl is over somewhere on the other side of the tracks!
I was swinging the camera - panning the train. Attached files

Love the first, fantastic timing. Yes trains are fascinating, moving or stationary they offer a multitude of opportunities. Thanks for posting it. delio

Good one, Daryl. I will have to try the pan technique next time the opportunity presents itself.

Dueling trains and missed opportunities......Hey.....I hear a country song in there some where.
The contrast between #1 and Daryls is outstanding. Two photographers, one train, two very different visions. Photography can be a very solitary endeavor and still rewarding. But add a friend, comradery and the chance to have contrasting styles and you get a lesson in how we all see differently.
